No Night-Nursing, Lucy + Carrots, Dallas' Half B-Day
Monday, April 12
Last night I didn't nurse the babies once. Dallas and I were up with both of them for about an hour though (from like 3 a.m. to 4 a.m). But that paid off when they didn't wake up til 7 a.m. and they woke up happy and playing. Here's a little video of what they were like when they woke up.
Also, I would like to stick with not nursing them at night...but we'll see how long this lasts. Dallas and I were both dead tired today...
Lucy LOVES carrots. She could eat them all day. Especially if there is some ranch dressing to accompany them.
I cut a bunch of carrots yesterday and stuck them in containers and Lucy helped herself today while I took forever getting lunch ready. I don't know exactly how many she ate...but it was A LOT.
This is now dinner time. The girlies got some pez from our neighbors for Easter and today they got to enjoy them after violin. Emma and Lucy ate theirs pretty quickly, but Alice ate hers nice and slowly. So of course, Lucy asked Alice if she could have some of hers because "I don't have any more." Alice was so sweet and shared with Lucy until Alice had no more. This is a picture of a very happy Lucy since she knows that Alice will share with her. :)

Usually they both have one foot up, but looks like you just get to see Mabel's foot today. Dallas and I joke that they love to eat everything with a "side of foot." Which is true - they'll often have a bite of their applesauce and then pop their little toe in their mouth. Haha. I don't know why they do it. It's messy but also pretty cute.

We were going to make fish for dinner but then I remembered Emma had soccer practice! So we ended up warming up some rice and eating the Costco lentils. Alice doesn't mind - this is her FAVORITE meal!
After the girlies were asleep, I went and picked up this kid locker/organizer thing from someone just 5 minutes away. I think it will be great - especially once we paint it. I don't know when that will happen...but I do think painting it would be a good idea.
Oh! And it was Dallas' half b-day today! I wanted to do something special for him - but the day ran away and before I knew it, the day was over. We all wished him happy half birthday, but that's about it. We'll have to celebrate throughout the week... :)
Bouncy House, Costco Babies, Color Eggs

Emma had a half-day of school! So we went to a friend's house to try out their bouncy house. Lucy doesn't look too happy in this picture...but I think she enjoyed it.

Afterward the three older girls stayed at a friends' house and the babes and I went to Costco.
This was a big day for them - their FIRST time sitting in the cart and not being pushed around in their double stroller.
I love how chill Olive looks in this pic and how they are both checking out all the deals.
They LOVED it! They couldn't help but swing their cute little legs and look all around.
I also loved it! At least for the first five minutes...

Yep. And that was the whole rest of the trip. I don't have any more pics because I spent the rest of Costco-time making sure my babies didn't jump ship. It doesn't matter how tight you make those seat belts, those rascally babies can turn around and wriggle out. None of my other babies have other done this! And I don't think Olive would have, but Mabel figured it out right away and after a bit, Olive decided to follow her lead. Which, by the way, Mabel has had plenty of practice turning around and wriggling out of her seatbelt with her highchair at home, so wriggling out of this cart was a PIECE. OF. CAKE.
Here's a little video of how cute and happy they were. And for the record, even though it was difficult keeping them in their seats, I did still love going shopping with them. I actually really enjoy shopping with all my girls and I miss them when they are not there.
Later that night we FINALLY colored eggs. Here's Dallas demonstrating to the girlies and our friends how to color eggs. He's a real pro.

Emma Soccer, Alice + Lucy Shopping, Babies Standing, Coco
Saturday, April 10
Today was Emma' first soccer game! She was so excited and did a great job! Her smile and enthusiasm made it obvious she was happy to be there. And it was so fun to see her going for the ball and interacting with her teammates. I asked her afterward what her favorite part was and she said, "Being the winners!" Dallas and I both laughed. Her team DID score a bunch of goals, but I made sure to ask, "What if you hadn't won? What would have liked?" And she said something like, "Being out there with everyone and all wearing our same outfits." She was really excited about everybody matching and just being a part of a team. We are looking forward to watching more of her games and seeing her continue to develop her skills.
After the soccer game, Dallas and the girls had an appointment at the library (due to covid, we can only go to the library at scheduled times). Dallas was pretty excited. It's only been the last few weeks that setting up appointments has even been an option. Anyway, the appointment was for an hour and only a max of five people could go, so we decided the babies and I would go home while Dallas and the girls explored the library.
I thought I might get a bunch of stuff done while they were at the library but only one babe fell asleep and honestly, I was kind of tired too (Dallas and I went to bed after midnight last night and I woke up at 5 this morning to run...and the babies woke up twice in between midnight and 5...not exactly a mountain of sleep). So instead of attempting to clean or work on projects while chasing the awake baby, I decided to let her crawl and play around me while I sat on the floor and read my book, The Mountains Sing. This is for book club and Dallas picked it up for me almost two weeks ago and I've barely read it. In fact, I only started because EMMA STARTED READING IT and I did not want her to read it without me reading it first! It is a super well written book about also very sad. If Emma wants to read more of it, I will have to read it with her so I can censor it.
Dallas and the girls came home - all happy and excited! Emma was finishing up her American Girls book...she'd read pretty much the whole thing just on the drive home. Alice was excited because she got HER first chapter book! And Lucy was happy about a book she had about tucking animals into bed. I kind of wanted to just have everyone crash on the couch and read. We did that for a bit...but I think I would have liked to sit there with everyone and read the rest of the day. That's something I'm trying to do better with - just sit and read or take a break sometimes.
Dallas also did some frisbee today and boy oh boy. the babies STOOD! They've done little bits of standing here and there for the last week, but today they legit stood for at least 20 seconds. This is big!
I got to go shopping with Alice and Lucy and I loved it. I always love shopping with my girls. Initially Alice wanted this to be a mommy-Alice date, but I knew how much Lucy would also want to go, so we invited Lucy and she (of course) said yes! I'm so glad they got to have some time together. They played with each other the whole time in the cart. We visited Target (we were mostly there to return stuff and get some princess bandaids...but left with way more than that) and then Old Navy for masks. We also looked for sandals at both places. That was fun - the girls ALWAYS love trying on shoes.
We came home and Dallas and Emma had done violin and finished up the laundry. Don't worry - I am sure Emma loved her time with Dallas and the babies. We hurried home though cause Emma called to remind me that I had promised her we would have smoothies at dinner. I told her Dallas could make her one, but she was doubtful so we hustled home and slurped down some delicious banana and soy milk smoothies.
Okay, we are finally to the end of the day! I don't usually give a play by play...but today you are getting one. We finished the night off watching the last hour of COCO. How have I never seen this movie? It is SO good! It has an incredible message, awesome music, and is just so colorful and fun, and I totally did not see the end coming! It is now one of my favorite Disney movies and the girls and I are motivated to learn some about our ancestors tomorrow.

Too Much Shopping

It's super late and right now my thoughts are, "I wish I'd planned better so I could have spent more time with my kids and less time running errands." I love the Friday nights that I get to spend with Dallas and the girls, but this week I spent Friday evening running errands. I definitely feel like I could have used my time better.
There were other great things that happened today though! Via the photos, you can see that the girlies took out the "Nativity." Dallas really likes to have this out only during Christmas while the girls would love to have out everyday if they could. They asked if they could play with it today because they wanted to act out the story of Jesus and his Resurrection. I thought that was a pretty good reason, so I said yes. :) Here are some pictures of them playing with the nativity.
And the babies continue to be the world's greatest climbers. Today was another full day of chasing babies and making sure they don't get hurt. They are so sweet though! We all love these darling baby girls.

April Fool's

Today was a raging success. I mean, it was our first April Fool's Celebration ever, so the bar was pretty low. In fact, the girlies didn't even know April Fool's was a thing til they saw me wearing one of Dallas' polo shirts backward. I thought of wearing one of my shirts backward, but it wouldn't be obvious enough, so I opted for wearing Dallas' clothes backward. They were also ultra surprised to open their closet and find MY CLOTHES hanging in there. They giggled and then quickly ran over to my closet and voila, there were their clothes.
I hadn't really done much at that point and still wasn't sure how much I would do, but when I saw how much they liked it, I figured I should do more. Especially when they started opening all their drawers and checking all the rooms to see what else had been switched around. So when they weren't paying attention, I switched around our sock drawers. And then I quickly made their beds, but backwards. That's April Fools-y, right? Then, I whipped out a marker and wrote some notes on the toilet paper. I only did one note at first, but then the other girls got excited and wanted to see what other notes were on the toilet paper - so once again, I distracted them while I wrote some more notes. Phew. That was a close one.
Off to breakfast! On the way downstairs the girlies were talking about checking to see what was switched around on the main floor. Doo doo doo. I definitely had NOT switched anything around down there. I got them coloring and switched up a few drawers. And then brought them over for breakfast. We had some leftover banana muffins so I grabbed three and stuck a candle in each one. Then we lit the candle and sang, "Happy April Fool's To You". That was a hit. But of course, our girlies are suckers for banana muffins with or without a candle. Then I told them we could have some cereal. I know - this is classic April Fool's joke, but it works great. I pulled out the Cinnamon Toast Crunch and poured it and out came Rice Krispies! Magical. Honestly, our girlies love Rice Krispies as well so not really a big deal, but still fun.
The girlies started talking about checking the basement and I was like, "Aww man, I haven't done anything down there." I let them know that April Fool's can happen all throughout the day - that way I didn't feel like I had to get it all done right away. I figured I wouldn't worry about the basement - it was too much. I did have some plans for lunch though. Again, nothing crazy, but the girls would eat it up. Literally. Haha. I crack myself up.
Lunch was "ostrich eggs" with "pumpkin pie" and then we had some noodles... just cause. It was simple but fun and my appetite for doing fun things for April Fool's has definitely been whet.
At that point I kind of forgot about April Fool's. I had been planning on talking in Pig Latin or rhyme for some part of the day but that didn't happen. I wasn't really sure what to do for dinner and was almost too late to do anything when Dallas assured me we could just make a "miniature" dinner and the girlies would love that. They did. Phew. Another close one.
April Fool's Eve

The LAST day of March and holy cow, that means tomorrow is April Fool's! I didn't do anything for April Fool's last year....or the the year before...or the one before that...or ever! But last year, a friend shared with me what she did with her kids and I thought, "Hey, that sounds fun. We should do something!"
That was last year I had that thought. And today (after dinner) I just realized TOMORROW IS APRIL FOOL'S! So in the midst of cleaning up dinner and getting the girls ready for bed, I rummaged through Google for some ideas.
I think we'll keep it pretty basic. Maybe I'll wake up early and switch their clothes with mine, switch out some cereals, write some messages or draw some pictures on toilet paper, do ostrich eggs (yogurt with peach on top) and some mini pumpkin pies (crackers with cheese) for lunch, speak in pig latin or in rhyme every chance I get, possibly wear my clothes backward, and maybe have Dallas put some colored stuff in the sink... I think those were some of the best/easiest ideas I saw. Maybe, depending on how we're feeling by the end of the day, I'll have Dallas blow up some balloons and replace the girls pillows with balloons. I don't know...
Tomorrow is also the Thursday before Easter, which would technically be the last Supper. I think we will do something for that on Friday though. I don't know how everything suddenly snuck up on me but I am not prepared for all of it all of a sudden! Saturday and Sunday is also the General Conference for our church and also Easter! Anyway, lots to do, lots to do.
Also, also, I am starting my "Fifty Days of Amy" tomorrow. Dallas says he'll join me. I am starting it tomorrow because tomorrow is fifty days til the babies are ONE! Gasp! How are they so old?!
Little House, Falling Asleep, Big Plans

Emma reading little house on the praire after alice and I fell asleep. Alice had a bad dream and was reminded of it and wanted to know how to get rid of them. I sang her some songs - favorite was my favorite things. we also sang the song they've been learning about jesus.
Lucy was an awesome helper today. she did so much - drying and putting away dishes, always helps with cooking
I told the girls last night that we were going to wake u p super early and get all our morning jobs done, and do piano and dance before breakfast. I hoped to get up at 4 and run, drink a massive bottle of water, pray, study my scriptures and shower and then the girls would get up at 6. The girls got up around 6... and they woke me up around 7. They had done pretty much all the morning jobs and were reminding me that I wanted to get up early. They are so awesome. So thanks to them, we still got all the other stuff done - but not the things I'd wanted to do from 4 am to 6 am 'cause I was snoozing in my bed. Maybe tomorrow? I did end up getting a run in around 1130 while the babes took a nap. Oh my goodness! I almost forgot! The babes are on DAY THREE of only taking one nap a day! How are we already to this point?! I feel like our other kids did not start taking one nap a day til they were one and we are still TWO months away for that!
