Veteran's Day, Kiwi, Sisters

Today was Veteran's Day and Emma was super excited because she loves ALL holidays! She asked a couple days prior what we would be doing for Veteran's Day. Actually, she said "vegetarian's day" :) Anyway, I had no great answer except for Dallas would be home! That would be special (even though he's only been at work a whopping three weeks since having him home for seven months :)

So, Emma took it upon herself to think up something special for Veteran's day. She told me she would draw Veteran's day pictures for all the neighbors and then take it to each of them. That was sweet...it would be a lot of drawing though. I think she was planning on doing one drawing and then making copies, but we got distracted and so she just did one drawing and then shared it with her friend. Here is the picture.

The other thing that happened today is that I got to go shopping - all by myself! I do like shopping with my girls, but sometimes it's nice to just go all by myself. And that hardly ever happens anymore. I wanted to go many places but ended up only being able to go to Burlington and Costco before hustling home to pick up lunch (the schools here provide lunches for the kids) and get Alice to preschool. At Burlington I got some bins for organizing the pantry and the girls drawers. And I was SO EXCITED! I love organizing and it made me so happy to find these bins. Here is a picture of the pantry:

We also learned something new today. Lucy LOVES kiwi! I had no idea. Honestly, Lucy will eat pretty much anything, but I was oblivious to her passion for kiwi. She saw some kiwi on the counter and requested it. Dinner was almost ready so I figured I'd just cut all six of them up and everyone could enjoy them. I put them on a little serving plate and set it next to Lucy. "Lucy, this is the serving plate - that means it's for everyone. Go ahead and pick the ones you want and put them on your plate." I walked back to the counter to finish whatever I was doing. When I turned back around, I saw Lucy carefully taking EVERY kiwi off of the serving plate and onto her plate. That cutey-pa-tutey. And yes, she ate every one of them.

I know I've said this before, but we have great neighbors. All of them. And I know the girls love seeing them and saying HI to all of them, but I don't think I'd realized how much they knew about each of the neighbors until tonight. Emma and Alice started a new game called "Katie and Joanna". They are two of our neighbors who are sisters and live across the street from each other! It is so fun because you see them running back and forth to each others' houses and always doing stuff with each other and with their families. Anyway, tonight Emma and Alice told me they were Katie and Joanna. They each had a dog like them and they pretended that the upstairs was one of their houses and the basement was the other and they ran back and forth just like they've seen our neighbors do. It was super cute and they both talked about how someday we would all live right next to each other just like Katie and Joanna. I hope so - that would be so fun.
