Surprising Mommy, Writing Letters, Building Igloo

Sometimes the girls are really excited about doing their morning jobs. Today was one of those days. They woke up before Dallas and I (that's normal) and got all dressed and did their morning jobs and got everything ready for breakfast. They were SO excited to surprise me with everything that was done. Truly, one of the greatest surprises - happy kids with all jobs done.

Here they are after popping out from this back wall and shouting, "Surprise!"

Emma really loves writing letters. She has recently been excited about also sending and receiving letters. Sometimes she and Alice write letters to each other and then run out to the mailbox and put it in so they other can go out and receive it. Today they pretended to get letters from their cousins (Kate and Jane) and then decided to actually write some letters to their cousins (Hannah and Ashley). We should send some actual letters to Kate and Jane...

Emma also loves learning new songs. She is currently focused on learning Christmas songs. She listens to them and then writes down all the words to help her learn. Here is an example of "The First Noel."

No idea what I am doing here. I think Alice took this picture. Looks like Lucy is reading a book and I am...maybe on the computer? Disappointing, Amy. You've got a sweet babe sitting right next to you and you're looking at the computer?! Honestly, this is something I want to improve. I feel like I've seen a bunch of quotes lately that say something like, "Parenting is 98% percent putting down your phone and looking at your child."

Here is Emma's letter to Hannah. I love her ideas. :)

Getting ready to send it off - with a decorated envelope!

I asked Dallas to take a picture of us. I wanted it to be a happy picture but one of the kiddos suddenly felt cranky (I think Alice because Emma got on my lap and she wanted to) so we decided to all make cranky faces together.

Who's got the best cranky face?

Our one attempt at a happy picture.

We changed up the scene by having the girls build this igloo with Dallas. Distraction is one of the greatest parenting tools. A kid will be sad about something (like somebody else sitting on your lap) and then you (the parent) get all excited (with wide eyes and raised eyebrows) and point to something else in the room and all of sudden, they forget what they were mad about. That's what we did here - reminded the girls about them wanting to build this igloo with Dallas and suddenly Emma was off my lap and Alice didn't care that she had been there.

Hey Mabel! Whatcha doin'?

Huh?

Oh hey, mom! You're my favorite.

Haha, I know. Want to come see me?
Of course!
