Catch-Up

 Wednesday, January 20, 2021

I have decided I have got to start writing each day again. Everyday I think I will catch up and I just keep  falling farther behind. My plan is to write for each day and also write about 3-5 other days that I have missed. Within two weeks, I should be caught up and won't keep falling behind. I can do it, I can do it, I can do it! Okay, so here goes.

The babies are champion-eaters. They go through 2-3 baby food containers each meal. That is WAY more baby food than any of our other babies ate. I am also so glad every that we got them these highchairs.

I once again found Alice taking care of the babies for me. She is so good at doing that! She loves the babies and they love her. :)

Olive watching Alice from down below.

The babes were so happy and playful, I put them both in the crib so I could get something done.

Alice kept them company. :)

The girls love the lentils packets from Costco (especially Alice). I think they're yummy too...but kind of pricey. Especially for lentils. Anyway, they were on sale at Christmas so I bought a box but today we were on our last packet. And it was only like a quarter of a packet. Luckily, I had made lentils the day before. For some reason, the girls don't like my lentils, but I decided to try to sneak them in with the Costco lentils and see if they could tell.

I think this is the moment they realized something was up.

"Hey! These aren't the Costco lentils!" Shucks, they figured me out.

Here's Dallas spotting the babies while they practice their standing at the staircase.

They smack each other in the face SO much. I feel like they are already incredibly tough since they have been smacked and kicked in the face by each other since before they were born.

See? It was nothing. They don't even cry when it happens. It's just normal life to them.

Just two babes showing off their standing skills.

Mabel staring into Dallas' eyes while Olive gives me a little smile.

I didn't get a picture of something that I really loved today - Emma reading Anne of Green Gables. I picked the book up on Monday when running back from dropping off our van. There was a cute little "free library" that I've always wanted to visit, but I'm usually in my car. Since I was running, I crossed the street and quickly perused the options. As soon as I saw Anne of Green Gables, I knew that was the book I wanted to bring home to my girls. I ran the last three miles with that and my phone in my hand. I showed the girls when I got home but they were busy playing and didn't seem super excited about it. No matter. We are currently reading Little House on the Prairie so I thought maybe we should wait anyway.

But then, today, Emma had a half-day of school. I had dropped Alice off at preschool and Lucy and the babies were taking a nap. And there were no friends over either - so it was just me and Emma! That is unusual. I started to clean up the kitchen then felt like I shouldn't. Emma was just sitting there all by herself. I should do something with her. I thought, "Hey, we can make dinner together" and was about to suggest that but realized I would want to clean the whole kitchen first and that wouldn't be very fun. Anyway, the thought came to read with Emma so I asked her to run grab the book from the bookshelf. I figured we'd just start it out and see if she liked it.

She LOVED it. I read the first five chapters with her (it is an abridged, illustrated version) and then she read another chapter on her own. It was so fun to see her excited about it and then reading it all by herself. Reading with Emma reminded me how many things I am excited to do with my girls - like reading these books and then watching the Anne of Green Gables movies with them. And then tonight, while typing on my blog, I listened to the 1994 Little Women soundtrack (because that's what I listen to when I need to focus and channel my feelings and get motivated) and remembered, I still need to read that with them! And then watch that movie with them! So much to do. I am SO SO SO SOOOO glad that I get to be the mom to these sweet girls.
